best museums in london? its tough to choose. but i always prefer small over big. a little national portrait gallery here, a little royal academy of arts there. their exhibitions are always superb – concise, enticing, eye-opening. and short enough so that within an hour and a half, you’re sat at a bar. win win! so if you’re only there for a short period, don’t bother trolling through the crowds in all the ‘biggies’ – go straight for the exhibitions here, and you’ll be blown away.
last time i was at the npg it was to see the marvelous man ray portraits
where there was also a touch of hockney
and a splash of champagne
(that’s how i prefer my museum visits…)
and if you must go to a ‘biggie’, i’d recommend the v&a in south ken – i went there last year for their exhibition on light in the middle east, and it was superb:
(also recommend strolling around their middle ages section)
