street art on road signs dot the city of florence. reflecting creativity, spontaneity and a sense of humour, they add a touch of intimacy as well as a contemporary edge to this city of renaissance art. at first, it seemed completely cryptic. and after looking here and here, i was none the wiser.
but, then, i looked here – and i found out that they are by an artist called clet abraham. french guy, living in italy, in his 40s. turns out, if you google clet, you get lots of hits. even the daily mail is on the case! at an artistic level, it questions the paternalism and usefulness of these omnipresent signs. at a visual level, it looks like this:
between piazza della repubblica and the duomo
in santa croce area
near market san lorenzo.
and they’re all over european cities!
so yea, keep your eyes peeled.
