tucked away on piazza strozzi, right behind the palazzo strozzi and amidst big brand names like armani, there lies a fabulous theatre which has been reconverted into a cinema: the odeon cinema. and lo and behold, it shows foreign films in original version.
the tickets were 6 euros (long were the days when cinemas in london were that cheap), the seats deep, wide and velvety, the room grand and slightly echo-y. and whilst i did not get any last night when i went there to watch ken loach’s deeply politicised film the spirit of 45, there seemed to be pop corn and – yes, that’s right – a bar. a real bar with alcohol.
so, if like me you love going to the cinema to watch a film in a foreign city, this will be a hugely useful find. the movie selection is mixed, from block buster hits to more arty flicks.

i’d even watch the new jennifer anniston movie just to sit in those seats.
